This is longish, but you really need to read it.
BOOK A CALL WITH ME I have a confession to make: When I was the new kid, in a new school, and a new town, my classmates nicknamed me “Square.” As in, I was a “square peg in a round hole.” I didn’t fit it.
It didn’t help that, growing up during the Cold War, I didn’t have a popular name like “Ryan.” My classmates thought “Vaughn” sounded like I was a Russian Communist. (My name is Welsh, by the way.)
As I have gotten older, I have never really felt like I fully belonged to any one group. I am happy to be a follower of Jesus; but if I’m honest, I think a lot of Christians are nutjobs. Seldom have I ever been accused of being politically liberal; but I often prefer the company of left-leaning coffee shop creatives than alpha male MAGA types. (But I’m pretty at getting along with both – and have good friends in both camps.)
In fact, I hope what was said of Ferris Bueller may be said of me: “Oh, he's very popular, Ed. The sportos, the motorheads, geeks, sluts, bloods, wastoids, dweebies, dickheads - they all adore him. They think he's a righteous dude.”
But…my “I don’t really fit nicely into a category” quality has been a pain in the arse for me professionally.
You see that I refer to myself a performance coach?
I mean, lately that’s the best way I know how to refer to myself. But I really kinda hate it. I mostly associate that with fit, fire-breathing overachievers who help people scale their business to 9-figures and get 47 abs. Those are great people! But that’s not how I think of myself...
If we can talk and I can help you pursue your dream of making money by making art, great! (I’ve done that.)
If we can talk and I can help you start a movement to get more people interested in the trades and blue collar work, great! (I’ve done that.)
If we can talk and I can help you overcome childhood-trauma-driven insecurity to become a supremely self-confident, beautiful bad@ss, great! (I’m not a counselor or therapist. But I’m doing that!)
A conversation about crafting a vision for your life that will help you create motivation, provide guidance for you.
A conversation that zeroes in on a goal and breaks it into a process for you.
A conversation where we work to help you get clear on an idea or something you are struggling with.
A conversation where we help you craft an identity statement, gain a better sense of who you are, and galvanize your confidence to move forward.
A conversation where I can be a sounding board…for pretty much anything.
The best compliment a billionaire entrepreneur / personal development icon once said about me was, “Vaughn is really, really good at getting sh💩 out of me.”
In other words, I’m pretty skilled at:
Asking questions
Probing statements
Uncovering emotions
Exploring ideas
And, in general, going deep into someone’s mind, heart, and imagination to help them work through whatever it is they are trying to work through…and get the result they want!
If that sounds like a good idea to you, don’t hesitate.
